July is Disability Pride Month

July is Disability Pride Month—a time to recognize, celebrate, and support people with disabilities. At Advocacy Links, we believe in creating a world where everyone belongs and is empowered to live life to the fullest. This month is about raising awareness, challenging stereotypes, and honoring the strength and diversity within the disability community.

What is Disability Pride Month?

Disability Pride Month began to mark the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which was signed into law on July 26, 1990. This landmark law protects the rights of people with disabilities and promotes equal access to education, jobs, transportation, and more. Disability Pride is about more than laws—it’s about embracing identity and showing that disability is a natural part of human diversity.

Why It Matters

People with disabilities often face barriers that go beyond physical access—like assumptions, stigma, and exclusion. Disability Pride Month encourages us to challenge these barriers and see the whole person, not just a diagnosis or limitation. It’s a time to lift up voices that are too often unheard and celebrate the achievements and contributions of people with disabilities in every part of life.

Celebrating Inclusion and Identity

Disability Pride is personal. It means feeling proud of who you are, finding community, and sharing your story. For some, it means advocating for change; for others, it means simply being seen and accepted. Everyone’s experience is different—and every story matters.

How You Can Support

You can make a difference this month by:

  • Listening to and amplifying the voices of people with disabilities
  • Promoting accessibility in your workplace, school, or community
  • Learning about disability rights and history
  • Showing respect, kindness, and openness in your everyday actions

We’re Here to Help

At Advocacy Links, we support individuals and families across Indiana with the tools and resources they need to thrive. Whether it’s navigating services or accessing support.

This July let’s come together to celebrate disability pride. Together, we can build a more inclusive, respectful, and empowering future for everyone.
